Following their best season in program history, Centenary lacrosse has named their former associate head coach, William LeClair, as the official head coach. Charles Seling, the former associate head coach alongside Coach LeClair, has decided to take a small step back by taking the role of assistant coach of the team. The Gents returned most of their starters from last year and recruited five new faces to help build on the momentum they gained at the end of last season.

The 2022 revamped cross country team, led by Spring 2022 hire Coach Joseph Moses Jr., opened September 9 at the Texas A&M Texarkana University Collegiate XC Invitational after a 7-year hiatus. The last time Centenary saw a cross country team was in 2015.

Last Saturday, the Ladies' Soccer team played against Jarvis Christian College. However, this is not the first time the Ladies have faced off against them. Last fall season they scrimmaged Jarvis and lost 1-0. Later in the spring season, they played again and dominated the game with a final score of 3-0.

With athletics finally back in full swing, our Centenary’s own student-athletes have wasted no time adding more hardware and accolades to the record books. On August 8th, Kendall Sanders was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year, an extremely prestigious award with over 150 nominees across all NCAA divisions.

It is hard to walk away from something you love. Serena Williams is arguably one of the greatest female athletes to exist, and her career has shown just how phenomenal her skills are.

As campus returns to a bustling hub of we’ve-done-this-before students and oh-shucks-did-I-get-my-books first timers, we are bombarded with new classes, events, and club involvement. One thing I certainly don’t recommend missing, however, is the opportunity to support fellow classmates as they head into much anticipated seasons of sports, theater, and choir.

The Centenary Women's Soccer team’s 2022 season is quickly approaching. With their first game on the 20th of August, that does not leave much time for them to prepare. Before the season even started, some of our very own Ladies got hand-picked to play across the Atlantic for the 2022 Beyond Sports Spain Soccer Tour this past summer.

On July 6th, Alyssa Davis was able to add another achievement to her already impressive resume after the SCAC nominated her for Woman of the Year, an award that has never been won by a Centenary student since the award was established in 2005.

Having grown up around the sport of lacrosse my entire life, the idea of lacrosse existing outside of North America seemed far-fetched. After finding out I would be taking my module to Finland, I wanted to see if lacrosse had started to grow there like it did in the United States.

Centenary’s Ladies and Gents golf teams are quite unique as they are the only team to compete all year around. They have a season in the Fall and Spring.

On March 30th, 2022, Centenary introduced their new football coach, Byron Dawson. In November of 2021, the school announced football’s return and unveiled plans for the next few years on how the program will get started.

Maddie Vacula, a freshman from Belton, Texas, has had an immediate impact on Centenary’s swim team. However, at first Maddie was reluctant to come to Centenary due to its small size.

Over two years ago now, COVID rocked everyone's world and changed how society functioned to combat the spread of the virus. Centenary closed campus in March of 2020, cutting the seasons of many spring athletics programs short. Thankfully when student-athletes returned to campus in the Fall of 2020, athletics was allowed to resume but not to the same capacity.

After 16 years of inconsistency, the Mavericks are back in Shreveport, Louisiana and ready to set roots…for real this time. The Mavericks have a rich and intricate history in their brief life span.

Swimmers have a reputation for being a little crazy that is well deserved. Jumping into a freezing pool at 5:00 a.m. and staring at a solid black line for hours sounds incredibly unpleasant.

A lot has transpired since the restarting of the Spirit teams, which consists of our dance and cheer teams. It has been active again since the Fall of 2019, starting with recruiting all school year long. Since then, members have come and gone (as well as coaches), but nevertheless the teams have still been having practices and attending on and off-campus events. 

Born in Kilgore, Texas, Seth Thomas is in his third year of playing for the Centenary Gent’s basketball team. Swayed by the short distance from home, impressive basketball coaching, and academic accomplishments by the college, Seth settled down at Centenary with great confidence that he would be successful.
